How to Write a Great Restaurant Business Plan

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Watching a season of Iron Chef does not make one a successful restaurant owner. Owning a restaurant is hard work, yet many people make the decision to open their own restaurants with their hearts instead of their heads. They fall in love with the idea of being their own boss and serving creative dishes to happy paying customers. For many, the reality is very different.

A restaurant usually requires the owner to work six to seven days a week, often starting early and finishing late. There are suppliers to deal with, casual staff to manage, fickle customers to keep happy, ever changing laws and regulations to keep across, and the day to day operational requirements of keeping the lights on.

Maintaining profit margins is always a battle, and any changes to the economic condition of the area you operate in, as well as any new competitors, can have a big impact on your bottom line.

It’s therefore critical that you do your homework and know exactly what you are getting into before you commit to buying or setting up your own new restaurant. One way to do this is to prepare a business plan with a professional planner. The process of preparing your business plan will help you identify the strengths and weaknesses of your business, and define the strategies and tactics you will employ to meet your profit expectations. The process will also help you research the industry, understand success factors and trends, and identify your direct competition.

As part of your restaurant business plan, you should also undertake a minimum two year cash flow forecast, to identify any times through the year when your ability to service your debt may come under pressure. That way, you can prepare budgeting strategies now to keep your business liquid through traditionally slower parts of the year.

Free Restaurant Business Plan Outline

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Lots of people seem to think that a restaurant business plan is a complicated document that they need to spend literally months working on, honing and perfecting in order to “do it right” but that’s not the case at all.

Restaurants have been around forever- literally thousands of years. And lenders and investors know how restaurants work- they probably ate in one in the last 24 hours. So you don’t have to spend a lot of time explaining that a restaurant is a business that makes money by selling food to customers (you won’t believe how often I see people doing that!) or anything else so silly.

All you need is to complete the following restaurant business plan outline, with one page or so per section:

1. Title Page- contact info

2. Executive summary- what, where, who, how much you need

3. Business Operations- location, hours, business form, owners, advisers, vendors

4. Concept- your menu and ambiance

5. Market- demographics of your area and expected customer profiles

6. Competition- who are you up against

7. Marketing- how will you find and attract customers to your location

8. Management- who are you, your experience

9. Financials- how much you need, what you will spend it on, your estimates of sales, expenses and profits for the first three years

10. Appendices- anything else- a website, menu, lease, resumes, etc. that support your claims

That’s it. You don’t need to go 20, 30 or more p

ages into this. You don’t need to spend months writing it.

Motorcycle HID Kits

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Whether you are interested in being safe or turning heads, you will achieve both by installing a HID kit in your motorcycle. Not only do the bright lights make a dramatic difference and customize the look of your machine, they enhance your safety enabling you to see better and be seen at night.

Motorcycle HID bulbs

The new technology in HID kits enables you to convert your halogen headlights into super performance HID bulbs which produce three times the light without compromising on focus or correct beam patterns. Standard xenon bulbs have a single beam which is used for either low or high beam. Bi-xenon bulbs provide both low and high beam in the same bulb using xenon and halogen gases. Purpose made xenon HID bulbs have a UV cut to avoid scratching the plastic lenses and come with a metal or ceramic holder. HID bulbs have a lifespan of three to five years.

HID bulbs come in various sizes which match your current halogen headlights. Simply check the headlight you want to replace or look in your owner’s manual to find the size such as H1, H3, H4, H7 etc. This means they will fit into your existing headlights without any need for modification. Twin headlight HID kits are suitable for motorcycles with two headlamps.

The color temperature of the HID bulbs typically comes in 4300K, 6000K which produces diamond white and is the most popular, 8000K which gives blue light, a deeper blue at 10000K and violet at 30000K.

CAN-Bus HID kits

An advanced bulb warning system is installed in newer motorcycles, mainly in BMW bikes from 2005 onwards. This CAN-Bus system cuts out the power to the headlights if bulbs are running at less than 55W. Since HID bulbs are only 35W, this safety feature can interfere with common HID kits and cause flickering and possible radio interference. If your motorcycle has this system, you need to purchase a CAN-Bus HID kit to prevent false bulb warnings.

The Reasons Why Organic Beauty Products Are Very Popular Now

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

These days the all-natural living phenomenon has become more popular than ever and is becoming much more mainstream all the time. The times when folks who use healthy products were thought to be hippies or weirdos are finally over. That’s something we can all be grateful for.

Nowadays a lot more people are understanding that all sorts of natural products are much better than the things you find on most store shelves. Any local grocery store offers fruits, nuts and vegetables for sale, and your own grandmother would undoubtedly tell you to use the same stuff on your body. And there are a lot of excellent reasons for that.

A lot more well-being professionals and skin specialists everywhere are recommending we change to organic products. This is because chemical based skin care products can cause various skin problems and they are simply not nearly as health for you.

Here are just a handful of the advantages of choosing pure beauty products:

* Youthful Looking Skin – Pure products can generally minimize wrinkles and age spots better than chemical products that may do more damage than good to your skin when used for a long time. Pure beauty products can perform very well at fighting the signs of maturing therefore you end up with much younger looking skin even as you get more aged.

* No Preservatives – Pure products that contain nothing but genuine substances such as organic fruit extracts and grains do not use any nasty chemical preservatives that could be absorbed into your skin. They’re cleaner and safer to use on your skin.

Do You Enjoy Pumpkin Spice Coffee?

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Do you know what? I love pumpkin spice, butter toffee, mocha mint and all the other varieties of coffee flavors. I think for me, it is just this time of year. Living here in upstate, New York and those of you who believe upstate is the North end of New York City, would be wrong. Upstate, is actually anything above New York City.

We are close to Syracuse, home of the fighting Orange and this time of year means football, cooler temperatures and all the leaves on the trees changing to beautiful orange, red, yellow, and green colors, and watching the rolling hillside explode with vibrant colors.

It is also the time of year I start craving everything fall; like football, hunting and my delicious flavored coffees, teas, cocoa beverages and of course great food! There is just something great about the full flavor of a great cup of pumpkin spice coffee when you are standing out on the porch watching the turkeys or the whitetail deer running across the hillside, or standing down at the barn looking over Oneida Lake (it sits down in the bottom of the Mohawk valley), nestled in amongst the colors of fall with the mist rising off the water and into the blue skies.

So, to make this time of year more fun, easier, and be able to indulge my hot beverage habit, I started looking into the new trend of single serve home brewing systems, and found that there are a lot out there. I have been so set in my ways of going out and buying a one pound bag of coffee, getting it in a few different flavors, and either mixing a couple, or having one kind at a time, that I never really thought there could be a better way.

The Benefits of Outsourcing Accounting Functions

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Accounting tasks to a non-financial person can be a mammoth task. Wading through invoices, bank statements amongst others duties can be quite tasking especially for small business owners who have a lot of other things to do. Even businesses that have an in-house business team still need to manage the functions of the team to ensure they meet the business objectives at a minimal cost.

What is Outsourcing?
Prior to the 1980s, a lot of business functions were carried out in house by many organisations. Businesses will employ a temporary member of staff to carry out the duties their regular staff could not undertake. This provision obviously increases the operation costs through recruitment, training, salaries, office space and other benefits.

Outsourcing has now taken the place of temporary staff amongst other roles in many organisations. Defined as the contracting out of a business function to an independent agent or firm, outsourcing is now a popular choice for businesses who want to streamline their processes.

Many companies now outsource a lot of their business functions such as Accounting, IT, Payroll and even recruitment tasks to external agencies. Some individual agents tend to work on site whilst others outsource their work to organisations that operate in their own premises. This is common practice amongst accounting and recruitment firms.

Benefits of Outsourcing.
Outsourcing accounting functions to an external organisation has many benefits such as:

Cost reduction: The most apparent benefit of outsourcing accounting services to an accounting firm is the reduction in personnel related costs – recruitment, salaries, benefits, office space and other costs synonymous with staff. A number of businesses who outsource their business functions reported at least a 30% reduction in business costs without a decrease in productivity.
